The Ultimate Valentine's Day

SIX FUN-FILLED VALENTINE’S DAY IDEAS

GC things to do to make your lover swoon…

Ahhh, Valentine’s Day. It’s one of those days people (generally single women) either scoff at and rolls their eyes when the flower deliveries start appearing on everyone’s desks at work, or it’s a day where couples can actually show a bit of affection for each other without being seen as soppy idiots. Either way, the Gold Coast is brimming with fun-filled or quirky things to do with your lover (or yourself, if you are one of those eye-rollers) this 14th of February.

HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE | GOLD COAST

If you’re feeling flush and looking to impress, what better way than a hot air balloon ride over the Gold Coast or the hinterland. With a champagne breakfast at O’Reilly’s Vineyard Grand Homestead to wrap up the morning, there really is no better way to watch the sunrise. Just be sure to avoid watching the footage of the infamous 2013 Egyptian hot air balloon disaster beforehand.

MOVIE UNDER THE STARS | SOUTHPORT

If 2020 hasn’t been that financially kind to your wallet and a reprieve from talking to your partner for two hours is more your thing, perhaps a free movie in the great outdoors is right up your alley. With a photographer roaming around taking snaps as a memento for your night, and free ice creams for the first 200 people, (be sure to get there early) this is a completely free night for all of you who can’t afford the hot air balloon. If you can endure Jessica Alba and Julia Roberts for a couple of hours in the film, aptly named ‘Valentines Day’ then Movies Under the Stars is definitely a cheap night out.

CONRAD SEWELL | ‘BIG WORLD’ TOUR | PARKWOOD TAVERN

Let’s be honest, there is no better way to impress your loved one than with a concert ticket and fortunately, Australian-born, LA-based Conrad Sewell, is playing one of his renown shows at the Parkwood Tavern on the 14th. His current album, LIFE debuted at number one on the ARIA charts, and having worked with big names like Armin van Buuren and the late Avicii, Sewell is a bold, bluesy act not to be missed. Get your tickets here now.

MISS MONEYPENNY’S | BROADBEACH

The way to someone’s heart is through their stomach right? However, most of us shudder when Valentine’s Day rolls around and you’re forced to choose from a limited set menu, with soggy salads and over-priced mains.. Miss Moneypenny’s however, has thrown the set menu idea to the wayside and instead, offers a full a la carte menu and even better, two for one desserts. So, if you’re dining alone, snarling at the smug couples, you can take comfort in eating two desserts and not having to share. If you are in the mood to get shucked, you are in luck as their oysters are fresh and the perfect aphrodisiac along with some bubbles. Yaaaaas!

TOP GOLF | OXENFORD

Everyone’s talking about this place at the moment and for good reason. With a sky-high podium, golf balls on tap and a fully stocked bar, you and your partner can spend the afternoon or evening belting balls and swilling a cold beer. It’s a particularly good option if you’ve had a fight on the way there - you can take all that aggression and anger directed at your partner, who bought you an iron for Valentine’s Day, out on the ball. Top Golf is the name, par yourself to fame! It's V Day, you may even get a hole-in-one!

THE BEACH | GOLD COAST

Perhaps you haven’t noticed, but the Gold Coast is all about the beach and given it is summer and being outdoors is ideal, Valentine’s Day could be spent strolling along one of the many prime beachfronts, such as Burleigh, Greenmount or Kirra, sipping a cold beverage on a towel, taking a dip and enjoying the sunset. Provided you’re in good company (here’s hoping given its Valentine’s Day), the good old beach is a handy last resort if you’ve been too lazy to plan anything else.
